Kuhn announced in October 2006 that he will terminate his engagement as manager of the Swiss squad after the EURO 2008. As the Swiss squad showed in recent games a unsatisfying performance, many observers believe that his announcement to step down was not helpful in regards of the EURO 08 tournament success. Kuhn was cited earlier it is the aim of the Swiss squad to win the tournament at home. A potential successor is Ottmar Hitzfeld who has himself thrown his hat into the ring for the job.
